We simply cannot disclose the identity of this Highland Single Malt. We can, however, confirm that it is a stellar expression of a 1976 vintage.
Nose: Immediately hits with Lipton Peach Iced Tea and a thick Mango Lassi. There’s a nice botanical lift of caraway and fennel seeds, followed by a pinch of white peppercorns. It gets sweeter and denser with air – peach cobbler (crust and all) and concentrated mango fruit leather. The oak spice is there, but it’s gentle and perfectly integrated.
Palate: Classic ’76 tropical. Soft, ripe mango and a bag of Allen’s ‘Peaches and Cream’ sweets. Proper old-school pineapple cubes. The mid-palate brings some needed structure: ginger tea, a refreshing hit of spearmint, and the slight astringency of cold black tea. It’s incredibly vibrant for a whisky of this vintage.
Finish: Long and very balanced. More of that black tea character, chewy tropical fruits, and a soft, drying oak spice. A perfect standoff between the fruit and the tannins.
