Nose: Old world marinara, seek plums and ye shall find, calamondin, maple glazed ham, rhubarb reduction, golden sugar, golden sultanas, deeply earthy. Scorched cherries, oily rancio with wet oak. Well-used leather tobacco pouch.
Palate: Lapsang souchong, kombu, green tea and mezcal 50:50. Redcurrant, brambles, smoked pork glazed in oloroso. The powerful spirit is in perfect match with the oloroso casks, creating an umami-rich flavour journey.
Finish: Cracked peppers and red berries. Sweet smoke lingers.
Comments: Like greeting Hades with a basket of plums in your hand. A lovely vatting of two sister casks from last year’s Staoisha release.
