As you know, we love a naturally low cask – its spirit becomes beautifully concentrated, layered with nuance, and full of character. This Clynelish is a perfect example of a well-made, beautifully aged whisky that truly shines in refill wood.
The label design is taken from a 19th-century geological map of Sutherland. We felt the map’s colours – crimson, orange, and yellow – offered a subtle nod to the region’s autumn and winter colours, which cover the remote landscape this time of the year.
Nose: Instantly waxy, with Amalfi Lemon peel, crushed seashells, wet cobbles, dry hay, and Culisse oil. Fruits develop with fleshy peaches, tinned pineapple and a hint of guava. Over time some soft aromatic spices develop.
Palate: Starts with plenty of fruits – Galia Melon, pineapple and peach. The fruits sharpen in focus, then become citrus-led with grapefruit juice and tart cherry. Some notes of palm sugar and crushed seashells.
Finish: Rich and full-bodied, with waxes, peels and a hint of marzipan!
